About this place
Bauchi sits where the Jos plateau falls away towards the Sahel, which gives it an unusual range of country in a short drive: highland farms in the south-west, dry savannah in the north-east, and Yankari — the game reserve that was Nigeria's first — in between. The city itself is a Sallah town, and the Durbar here is one of the country's great processions.

Roadside honey on the Jos road is sold in whatever bottle the seller has — mostly repurposed spirit bottles. The honey is excellent and the packaging has, as far as I can tell, single-handedly kept it out of every shop outside the state.
